Melissa Bernstein: the Journey to the Power of 5 Test Kitchen

Melissa Bernstein

A graduate of Boston University, Sargent College in 1975, Melissa spent most of her career in clinical and rehab practice management specializing in all aspects of “the business” of rehabilitation: operations assessment and development, strategic planning, management training, compliance, coding and billing issues, as well as merger acquisition assistance.

In 1993, she founded the Dynamic Group, as its president and CEO, providing healthcare clinical and operational consulting. In 1999, Dynamic Learning Online, Inc. was formed as one of the early adapters to provide online learning (e-learning) for healthcare professionals (PT, OT, SLP, AT and Guardians) to meet licensure and certification courses for required credit from the comfort of their home or office.

In 2015, Dynamic Learning Online, Inc. transitioned to Dynamic Learning/AGE GRACEFULLY teaming up with David Bernstein MD, physician, author and speaker to provide valuable resources on how we all can AGE GRACEFULLY. Dynamic Learning is the publisher of Dr. Bernstein’s three books, and Melissa, his publicist, communicates the benefits of The Power of 5 Lifestyle. The two collaborated and published The Power of 5 Journal – a companion to document progress while following the Power of 5 formula.

Melissa has developed many clinical educational offerings online, published articles and co-authored several books o

One of her next goals, which she achieved, was becoming a certified vegan chef. The Bernstein’s kitchen became Melissa’s test kitchen, now, affectionately known as the Power of 5 Test Kitchen. The next big step is of course, the cookbook! The first version is geared toward caregivers and has already been released. The full cookbook version is currently in the works.

Melissa’s Endorsements

My mother has an interesting type of dementia, metabolic encephalopathy. At the end of the day her diet is the biggest factor in her quality of life and survival. So, this book speaks directly to me. Thank you for writing a valuable cookbook for caregivers. –Ivy Slotnik, Family Caregiver

The Power of 5 Test Kitchen Cookbook – Caregiver Edition recipes have been strategically developed to foster healthy and happy senior living. This one-of-a-kind cookbook can help senior adults share the joy of cooking and eating together! –Susan Bazyk, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA

I love the table of contents and the Caregiver and Individual in the kitchen with cueing techniques and levels of assistance, all of the recipes, photos, and especially the abilities inventory that is easy to understand for all caregivers. The adaptive kitchen equipment and where it can be purchased with photos are essential. All the categories of food gave me time to think of all the things I am doing right and areas where I need improvement! Godspeed to you both for enhancing people’s lives. –Janice R. Murphy, BS, CTRS, PTA
